Frequently Asked Questions

What is a doula?

Doulas help you prepare for childbirth and provide reassuring presence during labor. A doula is a trained professional who continually supports you before, during and after childbirth. Doulas are non-medical, so they are different from midwives. Doulas offer you emotional, informational, and practical support during one of the most memorable times of your life.

What is your approach to care?

I believe in providing personalized care that meets the unique needs of each family. I take time to listen and work with you to develop a plan that you are comfortable with. My goal is to help you make informed decisions about your care and to provide you with dedicated support to enable a positive birth experience. I do not have my own agenda, and I seek to uphold your desires for birth.

Does doula care improve birth outcomes?

Research shows that doula support significantly improves birth outcomes. Mothers with doula support are:

  • 39 % less likely to have a cesarean birth
  • 35 % less likely to have a negative birth experience

Do you offer childbirth classes?

Yes, I offer private childbirth education to help you prepare for labor, birth, and the postpartum time following birth. During these meetings we cover a wide range of topics such as relaxation techniques, stages of labor, and comfort measures.

How do I get started with doula care?

I encourage you to fill out a contact form. Then we can chat and set a time to meet up that works well for you. After the initial meeting, we can plan how you would like to move forward with your doula care.

Do you take Medi-Cal?

Yes, I accept Medi-Cal. Doula support is available at no cost to you if you have Medi-Cal. I am a credentialed provider with Partnership Health Plan, the Medi-Cal service for Northern California.

Medi-Cal services can begin at any point in your pregnancy and through the first year after birth.
